The No Excuses theme for January was "Discovery." Here I explored the subject with a quote page and some free-writing...
The Documented Life Challenge for Week 3 was to use an envelope. Here's what I did with it...
I had an extra ink-blot butterfly leftover from the Life Book Lesson that I shared in my last "finish 'er up Friday" post, so I pasted it in here, along with a quote by Kurt Vonnegut...
The week four Documented Life Challenge was to write a secret message, and then cover up all but one word. I left one phrase viewable...
When you open up the tip in on that page, you can see the Life Book Graphite Feather Lesson (which I also shared in my last Finish 'er Up Friday post). Also, the page I did on the January No Excuses Artist of the month - Frank Lloyd Wright...
here's the same page with the tag opened...
this is what's on the back of the tag...
and moving on to February...
On the right is my collaged envelope for the month. The theme is "Sacred Spaces," and I decided to choose my own artist of the month this time - Jean Michel Basquiat...
When you flip over the envelope you can see the Week Five Documented Life challenge which was to doodle a border. I was inspired by this border on pinterest. It was a challenging doodle! And then there's my monthly goals mindmap...
My goodness, that was a lot! I hope it is helpful (and not overwhelming) to see all this!

I will leave you with this little song that still runs through my mind from time to time. You will probably recognize it if you ever watched the Donny and Marie show...
Hi Michelle!! WOW, this is a fun and pretty journal. I love every page and all the goodies you put in it. I like that you can mix classes/projects together into this also. GREAT JOB!!
ReplyDeleteI do have a planner and might start doing the prompts for JYL, the more I see everyone doing the more I can't resist.
Hope you are doing good and staying warm!! Thanks for sharing and it wasn't too much for me, I LOVE SEEING SO MUCH ART!!!
Very creative and beautiful. . . thinking outside the box. I like the cleverness of combining. Blessings, Janet
ReplyDelete*Sigh* Donny & Marie ... I loved that show!!! They have a Las Vegas show now ... and when we were there in July ... I was SO tempted to go!! :) I loveeeeeeeeeee your pages!! I think my faves are the first one with the owl and the one with the ink blot butterfly!!!!!!!!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful pages Michelle! I love how much variety you have in your Doc Life journal. :)
ReplyDeleteWow Michelle! I'm so inspired by all of your journaling! I've always kept a journal for strictly writing, but have wanted to keep a journal like this - where I merge artwork with my thoughts. I seem to be in a place right now however, where daily 'sit-downs' just don't happen. I'm keeping it on my list though because I think the results are more than just a gorgeous piece of art. I think these journals provide us with very real records of what we've done in our lives and how we were feeling in any given moment. Beautiful work! <3
ReplyDeleteLove your pages here- they're so bright and warm and uplifting. And that Donny and Marie- now that is bringing back memories.

Shelley, I love your pages. I see how no excuses fits in now. It only took buying the book AND the class to be able to catch on..
ReplyDeleteWhat type of colors to you use, they are so vibrant.
Thanks so much for all of your kind words everyone! I appreciate it so much! Robbiegirl, I tend towards liquitex and golden acrylic paint, and neocolor II watercolor crayons, but use lots of other mediums as well, but those are my favorites for creating rich, vibrant color! Oh, and spray inks too - Dylusions, Mr. Hueys and Maya Mist are my faves! Thanks for asking!
